Scottish and Southern Energy

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) was formed when Southern Electric merged with Scottish Hydroelectric in 1998.

Southern Electric is still used as a brand name by SSE for supplying gas and electricity in England.

Since that initial merger, Scottish and Southern Energy has also acquired SWALEC and Atlantic Electric and Gas, and is the second largest supplier of electricity and gas in the UK.
