EDF wholly owns EDF Energy, which was formed in 2002 following the mergers and acquisitions of companies including SEEBOARD (formerly South Eastern Electricity Board), London Energy (formerly the London Electricity Board) and SWEB Energy (formerly South Western Electricity Board).
