Beware the cold call!

Watch out for the telephone call that comes in the form of an energy broker that phones up out of the blue, offering to help you switch you to an alternative supplier. So what is the problem?

You could easily be persuaded to accept a gas or electricity contract that generates the maximum commission payment for the broker, but which may not be the best value for you, the customer. Callers could also be tied to a particular energy company, and may be anything other than independent.

Verbal Contract

And in the headlong rush to get their commission, brokers will also try and get you to agree to a verbal contract over the telephone. And yes it’s legal – and no, brokers are not regulated either!

Most will not take no for an answer and you can expect to hear from them again very soon.
